Charles R. Sims, FCA
was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Mackenzie
Inc. and Mackenzie Financial Corporation in March 2005 and Co-President
and Chief Executive Officer of IGM Financial Inc. in May 2005.
A Toronto native, Mr. Sims started his career in 1984 with Coopers
and Lybrand. He joined Franklin Templeton’s Canadian operations
in 1989, and over the next eight years held a variety of leadership
positions, including Chief Financial Officer and Head of Sales and
Marketing. In 1997 he moved to the company's international head
office in San Mateo, California, where he assumed the role of Vice-President,
Finance of the parent company Franklin Resources, Inc., and then
Chief Administrative Officer, Global Distribution from 2002 to 2005.
In addition to finance, sales and marketing, he has extensive experience
in operations, product development and strategy in Canada, the United
States, Europe, and Asia and was responsible for establishing the
firm’s investment business in China.
Mr. Sims is active in the Canadian fund industry. He was a member
of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) Board of Directors
from 1993 to 1996. Since October 2010, he is serving as IFIC’s
Chairperson. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of the
Toronto Financial Services Alliance. He has also served on the Board
of Directors of FundSERV Inc.
He is a director of Mackenzie Financial Corporation, Mackenzie Inc.,
IGM Financial Inc., and Putnam Investments.
Mr. Sims serves on the Foundation Board of Holland Bloorview Hospital
and Upper Canada College Foundation Board of Trustees.
A graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor
of Arts degree, he is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant and a member
of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
