Sheena Iyengar, Columbia University professor and a leading expert on choice sets herself the Herculean task of helping us become better choosers. In her new book, The Art of Choosing, she explores the complex relationship between choice and freedom, and why one doesn’t always go with the other. On March 23, 2010 as part of the Mackenzie Speakers Series, she took the audience through a discovery on how choices – both mundane and momentous – are shaped by many different forces, visible and invisible. Her findings and observations are particularly relevant for those in the financial service sector where broader choice and wider selection are often viewed as a benefit.
