BARRY McINERNEY, President & CEO, Mackenzie Investments: This organization is absolutely outstanding. Established only eight years ago, in that time, it’s provided more than $18 million, which is for military families, including supporting more than 100 community-based programs across Canada since 2009. Just some of the stats, and the stats are just so impressive: Nearly 1,500 military and veteran families were supported in 2015; over 1,200 military children attended summer camp, which provides a brief reprieve from the stress of everyday life; almost 300 soldiers and veterans have graduated from business boot camps, helping to launch 169 new businesses in Canada and finally, 144 veterans provided with rapid job placement and transition support. So just a round of applause, if you don’t mind, for True Patriot Love.

PAUL DESMARAIS III, Senior Vice President, Power Financial Corporation: We kinda left off, you know, we were kind of businessmen and soldiers and, you know, I’m going to quote David: “We ended the trip, we were all explorers and it was an incredibly equalizing moment.” It’s then that you realize that, my God, you know, the humanity of all these people is the same and it’s crazy that, you know, all these soldiers come back from actually sacrificing so much for their country and the investment in the reintegration into society is not quite there.

DAVID QUICK, Lt Colonel (Retired), Canadian Armed Forces: So what I always tell you, “Don’t ever feel sorry for me.” A 19-year-old Dave Quick volunteered in a volunteer army in this beautiful country and I was injured doing what I love. That’s a great story and I’m here to tell you. Certainly on behalf of all of the veterans and soldiers that have gone through the TPL apparatus, having the opportunity to meet wonderful people like Paul and your family, we are better off and stronger as a result and you folks are part of that solution.

True Patriot Love

Everyone knows the physical sacrifices that Canada’s military personnel make every day.

But what about the mental and emotional trauma they endure while serving our country?

  • FACT: The risk of suicide for our Veterans exceeds that of the general population.
  • FACT: 60% of medically released military personnel face permanent physical limitations.
  • FACT: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a grim reality for many Veterans.

Most of us can only imagine their painful and horrific experiences. How far would you go to help them? How about Baffin Island?

That’s where two of Mackenzie Investments’ senior leaders, Libby McCready and Fate Saghir, are heading on behalf of True Patriot Love (TPL) Foundation, a national charity dedicated to providing Canadian military and Veteran families with the support they need and the hope they deserve.

Mackenzie is proud to be Presenting Sponsor of True Patriot Love Women’s Expedition: Baffin Island 2019. The expedition will pair Canadian female soldiers and Veterans with female business and community leaders. During this first-ever all-women’s expedition, participants must work as a team to overcome significant physical and mental roadblocks as they snowshoe 100km across the frigid Arctic Circle!

Today, we ask you to support Libby and Fate to raise $100,000 toward this expedition. No donation is too small as every dollar helps provide crucial mental health and transition programs.

You can improve the lives of the military personnel who have sacrificed so much to protect our own lives. To support Libby, Fate and the entire TPL organization, please donate to the cause.

Thanks for your compassion and generosity as you make a difference in the lives of our military.
