Philosophy and process
Impax Asset Management LLC, formerly Pax World Management LLC, is a pioneer in the field of sustainable investing. The firm offers a diverse lineup of investment strategies focused on the risks and opportunities arising from the transition to a more sustainable global economy. Each strategy integrates environmental, social and governance (ESG) research into the investment process to better manage risk and deliver competitive long-term investment performance. Since 1971, the firm has made it possible for investors to pursue financial returns while having a positive social and environmental impact.
Julie Fox Gorte, PhD
Julie Gorte is the Senior Vice President for Sustainable Investing at Impax Asset Management LLC and Pax World Funds. She oversees environmental, social and governance-related research on prospective and current investments as well as the firm’s shareholder engagement and public policy advocacy. Julie is also a member of the Pax World Gender Analytics team.
Julie serves on the boards of the Endangered Species Coalition, E4theFuture, Clean Production Action, Great Bay Stewards and is the board chair of the Sustainable Investments Institute. She also serves on the Investment Committee of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative.
Prior to joining Pax, Julie served as Vice President and Chief Social Investment Strategist at Calvert. Her experience before she joined the investment world in 1999 includes nearly 14 years as Senior Associate and Project Director at the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, Vice President for Economic and Environmental Research at The Wilderness Society, Program Manager for Technology Programs in the Environmental Protection Agency’s policy office and Senior Associate at the Northeast-Midwest Institute. She received her Bachelor of Science in Forest Management at Northern Arizona University and a Master of Science and Ph.D. from Michigan State in resource economics.
Barbara Browning, CFA
Barbara Browning, CFA, is a Co-Portfolio Manager of the Pax Large Cap Fund, a Portfolio Manager of the Pax Ellevate Global Women’s Leadership Fund and a Vice President at Pax World Funds.
Prior to joining the firm in 2017, Barbara was Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at RBC Global Asset Management, Inc., where she co-managed Diversified Core, Concentrated Core and Diversified Large Cap Value Equity funds. Prior to joining RBC Global Asset Management, Inc., Barbara was a Senior Portfolio Manager and Investment Officer at National City Bank, a Senior Research Analyst at Banc One Investment Advisors Corporation and prior to that, held various equity research positions.
Barbara has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Ohio State University, where she graduated cum laude. She is a CFA charterholder.
Christine Cappabianca, MSc.
Christine is a Portfolio Manager of the firm’s systematic strategies, including the Pax Ellevate Global Women’s Leadership Fund, the Pax Global Sustainable Infrastructure Fund, the Pax U.S. Sustainable Economy Fund and the Pax International Sustainable Economy Fund. Before joining Impax in 2021, Christine spent 14 years with Mellon, where she held several positions, most recently as senior quantitative research analyst and portfolio manager for the firm’s Internet of Things, Blockchain Innovation, U.S. Manufacturing and Smart Cures Innovation thematic strategies. She also served as the ESG data expert on Mellon’s ESG Council.
Christine earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics at Harvard University and a Master of Science in investment management at Boston University. She holds the SASB FSA Credential.
Heather Smith, MBA
Heather Smith is Lead Sustainability Research Analyst at Impax Asset Management LLC and Vice President, Sustainable Investing at Pax World Funds. As such, she researches and evaluates the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of companies for inclusion in the firm’s portfolios. She is also a member of the Pax World Gender Analytics team. Heather is involved in overseeing the firm’s proxy voting and coordinating its gender related shareholder engagements. She previously served as a member of the Sustainable Investment Research Analyst Network’s (SIRAN) steering committee.
Prior to joining the firm Heather was a Legislative Aide for the New Hampshire State Senate. She received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and an MBA from the University of New Hampshire.
Scott LaBreche, MBA
Scott LaBreche is Director of Portfolio Analytics and Index Optimization at Impax Asset Management LLC, formerly Pax World Management LLC, and a Portfolio Manager of the Pax Ellevate Global Women’s Leadership Fund and the Pax MSCI EAFE ESG Leaders Index Fund. Across all Pax World Funds, Scott is responsible for fund research, quantitative ESG research, advanced analytics, risk oversight, fund optimization and board reporting, as well as overseeing performance and attribution.
Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Scott was a Securities Fund Analyst at Lincoln Financial Group. He has been in the mutual fund industry since 1999.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Masters of Business Administration with Advanced Certificate in Finance from Southern New Hampshire University.
